Fact: In Canada, 1 in 100 live with epilepsy and 1 in 26 people will experience epilepsy over the course of their lifetime.
Fact: In Ontario alone, 65,000 people are living with epilepsy and 6,500 individuals are newly diagnosed every year.
Fact: Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder behind strokes, brain injury and migraines.
Fact: The impact of epilepsy goes beyond the person. It also affects everyone in that person’s life including families, friends and employers.
Despite these facts, Epilepsy continues to remain in the shadows.
Why? Myths, fears and a lack of understanding about the condition, have perpetuated the silence.
